Parent Advocate Bilingual Spanish: Support Parent, Students and Families

Days off are the same as the school calendar of DPS to allow for all holidays and spring break.

Salary range: 14,000-16,800

20 Hours a week

10 month work year

  • Prior experience necessary
  • Bilingual Spanish a must
  • Computer skills with Office 365 a must 
  • Google docs a must
  • Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Essential Functions and Objectives:

  • Increase parent engagement and communication with their students school/s. Encourage participation at their student/s school events, meetings and in the classroom.
  • Organize parent involvement activities such as: workshops focused on how to navigate district policies, understanding assessments, organize meetings for school regions in DPS to work with all parents in DPS. Organize town hall meetings that can focus on policies and empower parents to take action: speaking at school board meetings, state board meetings, writing letters to district leaders or state leaders.
  • Work with school leadership to manage relationships between parents, community and school. Train parents on how to take action when concerns arise. 
  • Coordinate with parents how to recruit parents to join the Parent Grassroot Organization, name the organization, take a position in the organization such as treasure, secretary and recruiter. 
  • Communicate, organize and empower parents to understand plans and policies of the DPS school district. 
  • To support parents in understanding state policies, state and district statutes and language that affect their student/s education at all grade levels.
  • Research and develop tools to support and empower parents/community to advocate for their student/s in regards to school or district policies, assessment policies or expectations, language of translations when district is communicating with families.
  • Home visits when necessary.
  • Plan, organize and implement parent/community meetings at central locations for parents. Possible places for meetings: local churches, recreation centers or community centers. 
  • Convenes regular parent meetings focused on parent/family concerns. The meeting should lead to solutions or plans to lead to a solution with parent participation in the solution. 
  • Attend if possible DPS school back to school nights to foster and recruit parents. Attend local events that may be on evenings or Saturdays to recruit parents.
  • Identify and respond to day-to-day parent concerns related to school or district. 
  • Communicate with school Parent Liaison when a concern arises and work with the school leader to resolve concerns in a timely manner.
