UniServ Director Position

 

 

The Central Adams UniServ Unit is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of UniServ Director.

UniServ Unit Description:

 

The UniServ unit office is located in Westminster, Colorado, a suburban area just north of Denver.  This local option UniServ unit encompasses four pre-K through 12 teacher local Associations, all with Master Agreements, and one chapter of retired educators with a total Association membership of 3,005 active members with a potential of 3,272 active members.  The office staff includes two UniServ directors (including this position), an administrative assistant, two release presidents, two non-release presidents, and one release coordinators.

 

The Denver metro area is a rapidly growing vibrant community offering a host of cultural and recreational opportunities.

 

Qualifications and skills desired:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Association experience and an understanding of school law and current political environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills
  • Enhanced computer skills utilizing 21st century technology in order to produce unit/local communications
  • Dependable, self-starter with the ability to initiate actions and activities
  • Exhibit strong personal and professional characteristics such as flexibility, assertiveness, time-management skills, people skills and a sense of humor
  • Effective problem solver and team player
  • Demonstrated ability in leader development and coaching skills
  • Experienced in contract negotiations (both traditional and interest-based) and contract maintenance
  • Familiarity with mediation, fact finding and arbitration
  • Knowledgeable of shared decision-making/site-based management in schools
  • Skilled in organizational planning, program implementation and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze school district budgets
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Ability to build strong community and political coalitions
  • Experience in organizing political campaigns and activities
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, styles and personalities
  • Ability to anticipate and plan for organizational opportunities and challenges
  • Effective liaison with the state and national organization

 

Responsibilities:

 

The primary responsibilities for this position are to work effectively with local Association leaders in such key program areas as:  organizing, membership recruitment/retention, community and political organizing, member advocacy, contract negotiations and contract maintenance, and leadership development and training.  Additionally, the director will be responsible for maintaining an effective working relationship with local legislators, community leaders, and State Association.

 

Salary and Fringe Benefits:

 

Salary range commensurate with experience.  Also includes a full range of benefits such as medical and dental insurance, vision care, life and disability coverage, retirement package, vacation, sick leave and 18 holidays.  Expenses and an automobile allowance are negotiated as part of the employee contract.
